Jacqueline’s Journey

Jacqueline is a 37-year-old woman who lives with her husband of ten years, and two stepsons.

Jackie was recently approved for NDIS funding and is in the process of working with Give a Care support coordinator Monique to ensure she receives the greatest value from her plan.

Reaching this point wasn’t without its challenges for Jackie. She faced an initial rejection for NDIS access in late 2019, before suffering the loss of her mother a mere three months later. Jackie’s mum had always been her primary support person, guiding her in navigating the services she required. When she passed at age 69, Jackie’s father and sister Kerrie stepped in to try and turn around her NDIS rejection.

Thankfully, a Local Area Coordinator referred Jackie on to Plan Manager Claire Driver, who heads the Plan Support team at Give a Care. Give a Care’s Plan Support team offers their services free of charge to individuals wrestling with the challenge of securing NDIS funding.

Claire worked closely with Jackie and her family to apply for NDIS access, and prepare for her planning meeting, helping her reflect on her NDIS goals, and the daily supports she requires. The Give a Care team then accompanied Jackie to her planning meeting, supporting her through the entire process.

Their efforts paid off, when Jackie was approved for a NDIS plan with generous funding to accommodate her individual needs.

Before accessing NDIS funding, Jackie spent most of her time at home, venturing out once a week to a local tenpin bowling club. She had attempted several employment options, but nothing had worked out. Thanks to the Give a Care team, Jackie has recently started working at an assisted employment, where she says the staff are friendly, and she feels content with what she’s doing.

Jackie is thankful for her experience working with Claire and the Give a Care team, she appreciates their approachability and wealth of knowledge in accessing NDIS funding.
