CEO Update – 28 August

Give a Care Pty Ltd is aware of the article that appeared on The Age on 26 August, regarding the legal action Give a Care is currently taking against former employee Leanne Griffin.

Give a Care’s Founder & CEO Jeff Shaw has stated:

“I am aware of the article that appeared in The Age newspaper on 26 August 2020 regarding the legal action Give a Care is taking against former employee, Leanne Griffin.

Since the matter is currently before the Courts, I am limited in what I can say.

However, I strongly object to any suggestion that Give a Care does not fully respect the rights of people with disabilities to have choice and control over who supports them and how their supports and services are delivered.

I have a disability and live in a supported housing facility. I founded Give a Care due to a genuine desire to help give people with disabilities greater choice and control over the support they receive.

The key reason Give a Care has initiated legal proceedings against Ms Griffin is that she allegedly contacted clients of ours and disparaged Give a Care in order to solicit them to join her at her new employer in breach of the specific requirements of her employment contract.

We made several attempts to try to resolve the matter directly with Ms Griffin prior to initiating proceedings but to no avail. We therefore felt we had no choice but to take legal action.

We fully respect the rights of people with disabilities to have choice and control over who supports them. However, we will not tolerate any current or former employees allegedly making false and disparaging comments about Give a Care for their own personal gain.”
